Accessibility

This site should work for everyone

We build LocalCincinnati to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, and we treat any barrier you hit as a bug to fix, not a preference to debate.

Our commitment

LocalCincinnati is committed to making its website usable by people of all abilities, including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, screen magnification, speech input or captioning. We aim to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and to the accessibility expectations of Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Tools built into every page

Use the accessibility button at the bottom-right corner of any page to turn on:

  • Bigger text — increases text size site-wide without breaking the layout.
  • High contrast — a maximum-contrast color scheme.
  • Underline links — makes every link visibly underlined, not color-only.
  • Reduce motion — turns off background movement and animation.

Your choices are saved on your device. We also respect your operating system's "reduce motion" setting automatically.

What we've done

  • A "skip to main content" link as the first item on every page.
  • Semantic headings, landmarks and lists so screen readers can navigate structure.
  • Text alternatives on meaningful images; decorative graphics hidden from assistive tech.
  • Visible keyboard focus outlines on every interactive element.
  • Form fields with real labels, clear error messages and status announcements.
  • Color contrast checked against WCAG AA for body and interface text.
  • Layouts that reflow to 320px width and support 200% browser zoom.
  • Videos are embedded from YouTube, where captions and playback controls are available.

Known limitations

  • Embedded YouTube players are controlled by YouTube; caption quality depends on the original creator.
  • Photos submitted by the community may have brief descriptions until we write fuller ones.
  • Links to third-party business websites lead to sites we don't control or test.

Report a barrier

If anything on this site blocks you, use the contact form. Tell us the page, what you were trying to do and what assistive technology you use if that's relevant. We aim to respond within two business days and to fix confirmed barriers as a priority.

Formal complaints

If you're not satisfied with our response, you can escalate to the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division at ada.gov. We'd rather hear from you first and fix it.
